Biney
Maame Biney is an American short track speed skater who won the bronze medal in the Women's Short Track event at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She was a short track competitor at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Biney's remarkable performance has generated worldwide interest. Here are some facts you need to know about her. Schmitt
Allison Schmitt was one of America's most decorated female athletes. After the 2012 Olympic Games her national team was cut and she was not invited to the world championships. She suffered from depression. She was even able to fall into deep depression. She struggled to compete at the 2016 Olympic trials and even thought about driving off the road. Thankfully, her determination to return to the pool was rewarded and she has become a US Olympic swimming champion again.
Vollmer
Dana Whitney Vollmer is an Olympic gold medalist five times and a former world record holder at the swimming competition. She won the 2004 Summer Olympics gold medal in swimming and set a record for the event. She was also awarded the Olympic bronze medal in the event and the bronze at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She was a former college swimmer who has been training hard to become a world-class swimmer. These are five reasons Vollmer excels:
Joyner-Kersee
Jacqueline Joyner Kersee of the USA is a retired track & field athlete. She has won four Olympic silver medals, one bronze and two gold. She is a great long jumper and heptathlete. She won the 1984 Olympic title for long jump. Joyner-Kersee also won the silver medal in the long jump in 1996.
Evans
Bobsledder Aja L. Evans is an Olympic medalist for Team USA and is a brakeman on the bobsled. Growing up in Chicago, she was an All-American shotputter and a track-and-field City Champion. Evans won a shot-put title at the University of Illinois and was an All American in track and field. She was an Olympic champion after she joined the 2012 bobsled teams.
Voisin
Maggie Voisin is a female athlete from the United States who is on the U.S. Olympic team this year. She missed the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics after suffering a leg fracture. She competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics but was not able to make it to the podium due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. Voisin was unable to compete for eight years due to the injury, but Voisin is back.
Retton
Retton served as a member in 2004 of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The organization was established by the U.S. to promote physical activity and encourage Americans all ages to engage in sport. This council is part of United States Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Public Health and Science. While the bill did not become law, Retton met with its sponsor and helped to drop the proposal.
