It has been a part of seven consecutive FIFA World Cups

The U.S. men’s soccer team was almost non-existent in international soccer until 1982. Although the North American Soccer League had emerged in the 1960s and 1970s, it failed to become a major force in global soccer. U.S. soccer did not stop there. The United States' first World Cup appearance was in 1982. After losing to Egypt in tiebreaker, they were 1-1-1.

The history of the U.S. soccer team is long and varied. U.S. soccer was first represented at the World Cup in 1990. They reached the quarterfinals twice. The team is today a major force in the sport, having hosted three World Cups.

It has hosted the FIFA Women's World Cups twice.

In 1999, the United States hosted Women's World Cup. The competition was relocated from China where it was first held in 1994. The bid was successful and U.S.Soccer successfully hosted the tournament. The U.S. women's team won U.S. Cup '95. This tournament saw the US beat Mexico 4-0, and tie Colombia. The women's team also came third, defeating Canada 3-0 and earning all star honors.

Apart from hosting the World Cup in 2014, the US soccer team also hosted the Women's Olympic Games as well as the Pan-American Games. The international success of the US women's soccer team in the World Cup has helped them make great strides. Abby Wambach, Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, April Heinrichs, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, and Megan Rapinoe are some of the most recognized names in women's soccer.

It has won four Olympic Gold medals

The United States soccer team has won 4 Gold medals over the course of Olympic soccer. The men's and women's teams have each won one gold medal and a silver. The US soccer team won the first gold medal in 1996. They defeated China by 2-1 in Atlanta. They beat Norway 2-0 to win their second gold medal in Sydney. They won three more consecutive games after that.

The women's soccer team has a history of dominance, and the team's first semifinal match in Rio was a tough loss to Canada. While they have won more medals, they have yet to win any World Cups. Abby Wambach still has not considered retirement, but she has used Olympic experience to motivate her team and provide an opportunity to make it better than she found.
