The United States soccer association is a nonprofit organization with its headquarters in Chicago. It oversees both amateur and professional soccer in America, as well sanctioning tournaments.

It has played in seven consecutive FIFA World Cups
Until 1982, the U.S. men's soccer team had been almost irrelevant in the international game. Although the North American Soccer League existed in the 1960s/70s, it was not a significant force in international soccer. However, that didn't stop U.S. Soccer. 1982 was the first World Cup appearance for the United States. They were 1-1-1 after losing to Egypt on tiebreaker.
Since then, the soccer team has had a rich and varied history. U.S. soccer was first represented at the World Cup in 1990. They reached the quarterfinals twice. Today, the team is a dominant force in the sport and has hosted three World Cups.
It has hosted two FIFA Women's World Cups.
The Women's World Cup took place in the United States in 1999. It was originally hosted in China in 1994. The bid was approved and the U.S.S. Soccer team hosted the tournament. The U.S. women's team won U.S. Cup '95. This tournament saw the US beat Mexico 4-0, and tie Colombia. The women's team also came third, defeating Canada 3-0 and earning all star honors.
Apart from the World Cup, several international soccer events have been hosted by the US team, such as the Women's Olympic Games or the Pan-American Games. The US women’s team has made huge strides since the 2014 Olympics. Their success at the World Cup has elevated their international reputation. Abby Wambach, Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, April Heinrichs, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, and Megan Rapinoe are some of the most recognized names in women's soccer.

It has won four Olympic Gold medals
Four Gold medals have been won by the United States soccer team in the history of Olympic soccer. Both men's or women's teams won one gold and one silver. The 1996 gold medal won by the US soccer teams was their first. In Atlanta, they defeated China 2-1. They won the second gold medal in Sydney, Australia, defeating Norway 2-0. They then won three consecutive games.
The history of dominance in women's soccer is long. Canada was the opponent in their semifinal match at Rio. They have won more golds medals but have not yet won any World Cups. Abby Wambach hasn't addressed retirement yet, but she has used her Olympic experience as motivation and an opportunity to make the team better than she found it.
