Carla Esparza - UFC Women's Strawweight Champion

Carla Esparza is a mixed martial artist. She competes in the strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. She is currently UFC's strawweight champion. After losing her first title fight against Cyborg at Invicta FC 6, Coenen II (2013), this is her second title defense.

Carla Esparza (USA) is a professional mixed martial artist. She competes in UFC's women's strawweight division. She is currently the UFC Women's Strawweight Champion and has won two other UFC titles.

After signing with Invicta FC, Esparza rose to fame for the first time in 2012. Invicta FC2 saw Sarah Schneider lose to Esparza in 2012. Esparza got on the back of Schneider early with a heel hook and then attacked the Argentine. She managed to control her opponent's head, and then tried briefly to apply a rear-naked choke.

She is currently UFC strawweight champ

Carla Esparza has been a professional fighter since 2010. She is the first UFC strawweight champion, and the first Invicta FC champion. She is currently ranked 4th in the UFC women’s rankings for strawweight. Esparza made her UFC debut in 2014 after winning the Ultimate Fighter 20 women's strawweight tournament.

Carla Esparza has a poor record. She has lost to Jessica Andrade and Claudia Gadelha. She has also fought close calls against Marina Rodriguez, Weili Zhang, and Jessica Andrade. This could be a red flag, considering her five-fight winning streak.

She lost her first title defense at Invicta FC 6: Cyborg vs. Coenen II (2013)

Cyborg is the stronger fighter. Coenen can be aggressive and determined. Despite an opening round that featured leg kicks from both fighters, Coenen was unable to stop Cyborg's relentless assault. Cyborg won the second round with a takedown, landing a series punches. Coenen tried to escape but the "Cyborg", managed to score a takedown and land several power punches to end the round.


Cyborg will defend her featherweight title, against Coenen. The former Strikeforce featherweight champion won their first bout by TKO. Coenen is coming into this bout after a streak of two wins. The winner will fight either Ayako Hazasaki oder Carla Esparza.

In 2007, she sustained nerve injury.

Carla Esparza is able to return from nerve damage that she sustained in 2007 despite her injuries. Rose Namajunas beat her to win the UFC strawweight crown in May. In November, she is expected to defend her title against former champ Zhang Weili. Recently, she posted an update on social media regarding her fight camp.

Esparza was injured in the accident and went to the hospital. Her hospital bill was $30,000 but she agreed to fight. InvictaFC7 card saw her fight again against Maya Hamasaki the next year. Claudia Gadelha was her next opponent, but Gadelha pulled out due to stomach disease.

She won two title bouts against Rose Namajunas

Rose Namajunas & Carla Esparza, both former women's lightweight champions, have faced each in two title fights. Namajunas won the title in April and retained it in November. Although the fight was close, neither fighter managed to land a knockout. Esparza was awarded the official scorecard of 48-47.

Esparza had a record of 3-3 in 29 prior to this title fight. However, her win over Virna Jandiroba on April 2019 opened the door for a five-fight winning streak. She beat Yan Xiaonan at a COVID Quiet UFC APEX in Las Vegas in eight minutes. In June 2019, her title was defended by knockout in Round 1.
