Richie Burke, the Spirit's coach was fired and the team was expelled from league governance. This was after allegations that Burke had abused his players. The Spirit was forced to forfeit two of their games due to COVID-19. They were not able to salvage the season.

The Washington Spirit and the Chicago Red Stars will meet in the 2021 NWSL title on Saturday, 20 November. The match will broadcast on CBS Television Network. Internationally, it will be streamed by Paramount+. The game will be held in Louisville at noon ET. Both sides will be striving to win the league championship for the first time.

With three wins in their first three matches, San Diego Wave FC has taken a commanding lead in the NWSL regular season standings. The team beat Houston Dynamo 4-1 on April 27 and defeated the Chicago Red Stars, 2-1, on May 7. Kaleigh Riehl and Alex Morgan both scored twice in Waves' 2-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars.
Courage: Jessica McDonald wins twice
Jessica McDonald, Courage's player, scored two goals against Portland Thorns. Lynn Williams placed the ball high into box. Debinha then one-touched it inside for McDonald's who sent the ball to the left side. This is McDonald's 50th career goal. The Courage won the league title and is now on the verge to make it long-distance playoff runs.
Trinity Rodman scores Thorns
After scoring three goals in the last three matches, Trinity Rodman has been a focal point of the Thorns' offense. For years, she has been an integral part the U.S. national teams system and helped her country win CONCACAF's under-20 championship in March. Rodman was the star on the night and created three chances. She was key to the team’s playmaking. On the defensive side, she dazzled with nine recoveries, an interception, and three tackles.
Wave FC's Kailen Shiridan is a career penalty saver with seven
Kailen Shiridan, Wave FC goalkeeper makes her seventh career penalty save. Sheridan saved two more shots and stopped three shots during her last game against San Diego. The Wave lost to the Kansas City Current 2-1 on Sunday. Amirah Ali scored Wave's first goal in 88 minutes. Ali was assisted by Makenzy Doniak. Kansas City won the game in 27 minutes thanks to CeCe Keizer's penalty kick.

Alyssa Mauutz leaves the league
Alyssa Mautz announced her retirement from the NWSL on Tuesday, saying it was time to move on. The Chicago Red Stars player in the midfield had played for them since 2003. On Wednesday, she announced her resignation. This move will likely create a void within the league which has had a difficult time with transfer activity in recent years. Alyssa Mautz was league's top scorer with 16 goals and 8 assists during her 10-year career.
