She went on winning the Under-21 Championship and the State Championship with her local Braddock Bluebelles team. She was an All-American college soccer player at William and Mary University. Ellis won accolades for her coaching work, even though she was only 20 years old when she played.
In addition to her years as a coach, Ellis has extensive experience in sports management. Ellis has held numerous leadership positions, including the United States Soccer Federation Development Director. She was also assistant coach to the U.S. women’s team and coached youth women's soccer teams. In 2012, Ellis was named interim head coach of the senior women's national team.
