Morgan Toles and D'Andra Moss were her teammates as young basketball players. She also played for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team.

Maya Moore was one of four Minnesotans who competed for the U.S. Women's Olympic Basketball Team in 2012. She was the second American player to be selected for the team. Her efforts helped the United States earn the gold medal in 2012. Six gold medals were won in eight games by the U.S. Women's Basketball team, including two in London.

Maya Moore, 25, has announced her decision to not return to the WNBA Court this season. Last time she played for the Minnesota Lynx was in 2018. She said in February that Moore would be taking a vacation to pursue her dreams of becoming a minister and to concentrate on her family. Moore has also been working hard to release Jonathan Irons, a teenager who was convicted of the same crimes.

Moore met Irons while visiting her godparents, Missouri. She also met his great-uncle, who introduced them to the rest of the family. When Irons was 16 years old, he was convicted of a burglary and shooting at the home of a white man. The homeowner, Stanley Stotler, recognized Irons as the perpetrator. The jury convicted him of the crime and sentenced him to prison.

Moore proposed to Irons on the night a judge overturned his conviction for aggravated assault. After citing problems in the investigation, the judge overturned Irons’ conviction. The couple is now engaged and plan to start a foundation to help wrongfully convicted individuals. Moore plans to play basketball again in the spring.

Maya Moore just announced the birth of her first child, Jonathan Irons. The baby boy was delivered in February 2022. The couple married in 2020 after Jonathan was released from prison. It is unknown if the couple are still together. Jonathan and Maya had a close friendship in prison.
