Moore was a player for the Georgia Metros between 2005 and 2006.
Maya Moore represented the Georgia Metros 16U Nike Travel Team during 2005 and 2006. Her team was 73-6 that season, and she won MVP honours. The team won four National Championships. Morgan Toles was her junior teammate, as well as D'Andra and D'Andra Moss, who later went on to play college basketball. She has also played basketball for the University of Connecticut women's team.

Maya Moore was one the four Minnesotans who participated in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team. She was second to be selected to the team. This helped the United States win their gold medal in 2012. The U.S. women’s basketball squad won six golds medals in eight games including two in London.
Moore's WNBA career is now on hiatus
Maya Moore announced today that she will not be returning this season to the WNBA court. The 25-year old last played for Minnesota Lynx back in 2018. She announced in February that she would be taking a break to follow her ministry dreams and focus on her family. Moore has also been working hard to release Jonathan Irons, a teenager who was convicted of the same crimes.
Jonathan Irons, Moore’s husband, was convicted of a burglary in 2007 and a shooting in 2007.
Moore met Irons during a visit to her Missouri godparents. She also met Irons' great-uncle who introduced them all to the rest. Irons was 16 when he was convicted for a burglary and shooting at a home owned by a white man. Stanley Stotler identified Irons, the victim, as a homeowner. He was convicted by the jury and sent to prison.
Moore proposed to Irons on the night he was freed
Moore proposed Irons to him on the same night that a judge overturned Irons’ conviction for aggravated attacking. After citing problems in the investigation, the judge overturned Irons’ conviction. The couple have been engaged and are planning to start a foundation in support of wrongfully convicted. Moore plans to play basketball again in the spring.

Moore is expecting a boy with Irons
Maya Moore recently announced the birth her first child together with Jonathan Irons. The baby boy was born February 20, 2022. The couple married in 2020 after Jonathan was released from prison. It is unknown if the couple still live together. Jonathan and Maya were in prison together, where they formed a close friendship.
