
Tina Estrada, coach of the San Jose State women’s soccer team is on a roll. We discuss Estrada's story and the Spartans' recent successes. We also cover the university’s mental health resources to student-athletes.
Estrada's success
Hanson was Estrada's assistant coach for the San Jose State women's soccer program in 2017. Estrada has a similar history to Hanson. Estrada was an All American college soccer star and was also a member the U.S. national under-17 soccer team. Estrada, who played in four NCAA tournaments, was a three-time All-WCC forward for Santa Clara. In 2015, Estrada was named Assistant Coach of Year by the NSCAA.
Estrada is from Fremont, Calif. Estrada now lives in Walnut Creek. She has coached Spartans to two NCAA Tournaments. Her teams have won five consecutive conference tournaments.

Recent success at SJSU
The recent success of SJSU women’s football has been due to many players. Most notable, Dorthe Hoppius was named team MVP. However, she will not be returning to the Spartans in the 2018 season. Jamilecxth Becerra from Mountain West was also honored as the Newcomer of Year. He scored seven goals, including five that won the game. Darriell F. Franklin was named MW defensive play of the Year and made the All-MW team.
New facilities have contributed to Spartans' recent success. Spartan Beach is a new addition to the campus. In addition to these two facilities the Spartans plan to open their Spartan Athletics Center in the next year.
Career of Tina Estrada, Coach
Estrada has been acting as interim head coach for San Jose State's women's soccer program for the past two weeks. She was previously an Associate Head Coach and Spartans assistant for the past four years. Lauren Hanson left after eight seasons and she was resigned. Hanson had been the most successful coach in school history.
Estrada was a star player at Santa Clara University. She has also been an excellent assistant coach and associate head coach for many programs. Estrada is on track to be one the most successful young head coaches in division-one women's soccer. Estrada has a strong teaching ability, is extremely communicative, and has excellent leadership skills.

SJSU's mental healthcare resources for student athletes
SJSU student-athletes can access many mental health services. Many resources are targeted at athletes' needs. Support for Sport is a resource that helps athletes connect with mental health professionals and share their concerns with others. LGBTQ+ Support offers stories and perspectives about being gay in sport. ULIFELINE offers college mental health resources. Counseling Services offers student-athletes a self-help resource page. Health and Wellness Education's website contains extensive information on mental health topics.
SJSU's Counseling and Psychological Services division provides quality services for students. This department examines the individual and provides guidance to assist them in becoming productive members of society. The department is located on the third level of the Student Wellness Center and offers counseling for a wide variety of issues.
